About Us
Tamay & Me is a slow fashion collaboration rooted in respect for people, planet, and tradition.
Founded in 2015 by Tamay, a Mien artisan from the mountains of Northern Vietnam, and Hannah, an anthropologist from the UK, our work is shaped by friendship, storytelling, and a shared belief that what we wear should reflect what we value.
Tamay taught Hannah how to make Mien embroidery in 2008, just as she had taught her daughter and as her mother taught her. Tamay and Hannah sat together for three months working on one tiny piece of embroidery. The two became great friends and have been working to raise awareness of the Mien skills ever since. We want to help women earn a sustainable living and maintain their textile heritage.
Each piece we create — from jackets to accessories — is made by hand using time-honoured techniques. We work with small-scale farmers, indigo dyers, and tailors to produce textiles that honour the land and the culture they come from. Our designs are zero-waste, our materials natural, and our supply chain transparent — built on relationships, not transactions.
At Tamay & Me, we don’t follow trends. We follow traditions. We care for the hands that make our clothes and the impact they leave behind. By choosing our pieces, you’re helping to keep ancient skills alive, support mountain communities, and wear something made with purpose.
This isn’t just clothing. It’s culture — preserved and passed on.
10 years on, we are delighted to have been able to expand our jacket collections. We have added a few more cuts, still very traditional ones, and a few more colours, still very natural ones. We now work across multiple villages, and have a team of 20 artisans in working around Sapa. We are also happy to share unique vintage finds from Tamay and work in collaboration with artists and makers to create one off collections. Be sure to sign up to our mailing list to hear the latest.
Importantly, a huge thank you goes out to our loyal customers and stockists for making this all possible.
