Rice Mountains Scarf

£88.00

A unique tie-resist pattern made by wrapping cotton thread around balls of paper. On each scarf there are 300 knots. Some dots are 'up' and some 'down' to create a more textured look, as is traditional for these Tay textiles.

Made by Lan and her daughters and daughters-in-law in the mountains near Sapa.

Two panels are hand-stitched together by Yiv with indigo-dyed, handspun cotton thread.

Raw top and bottom edge

Vietnamese, handspun and handwoven cotton that will soften and become increasingly beautiful with time and wear.
